The Directorate of Health is subordinate to the Ministry of Health and Care Services and works to strengthen the health of the population and develop good health services. They shall, among other things, implement adopted policies, manage laws and regulations within the health sector, and in addition be a professional advisor.
One of the main areas of the Danish Health Directorate's strategy is to focus on digital services. Digital solutions should be the first choice when the Directorate of Health develops its own services, and they aim to be a driving force for the development of digital services throughout the health and care sector. With a strong focus on developing new digital services, the importance of having control over your own IT landscape is paramount.
The Directorate of Health had challenges related to maintaining control on its portfolio of systems and applications. They had previously used a portfolio system that no longer met their needs, and so they wanted to swap this out. In addition, they wanted a service that helped maintain and manage the system in the aftermath of implementation. Previously, the Directorate of Health had faced challenges in the context of maintaining the documentation of the systems, and ensuring that the data is up to date.
The Directorate of Health saw a need for an easy-to-use, low-maintenance solution that allows them to map and document the application portfolio. Its main purpose was to obtain a database of information that provided a basis for visualizing the applications and the connections between them. This, in turn, can be used as valuable information in decision-making related to the development of new digital services.
An easy-to-use and forward-looking solution with the Ardoq enterprise architecture tool.
In order to solve the Danish Health Directorate's need for a system for managing the application portfolio, Axaz provided a solution together with Ardoq. Axaz is a Managed Service Provider of Ardoq. That is, Axaz as its main model delivers enterprise architecture as a service and acts as the enterprise architecture function for or in collaboration with customers, with Ardoq as the tool. Axaz works closely with Ardoq, recording suggestions and ideas for further development, as well as helping to test new functionality. In addition, Axaz and Ardoq are developing best practices to be able to offer our customers the most value possible.
For the Directorate of Health, Axaz has implemented the “Application Portfolio Management” (application portfolio management) part of the utility Ardoq. This gives them good control over systems and applications, and how they relate to other areas of the business, such as employees. At the same time, the tool offers several possibilities for automating the documentation that makes it easier to maintain the architecture.
- Our goal is to be a supporter of the Directorate of Health in terms of their application portfolio, and to be a proactive partner that assists in the management of the business architecture and the realization of new needs,” says Anders Kornbrekke, Head of Business Architecture at Axaz.
After implementation, Axaz works closely with the Directorate of Health and assists in keeping information about the architecture up to date, as well as seeing opportunities for the realization of new needs. An important part of the job is to involve the organization and decision makers through good visualizations of the architecture that give them good control, in addition to valuable management information. Here Axaz also works with the establishment of good procedures and effective documentation in order to constantly have an up-to-date picture of the business and the surrounding landscape.
Following the implementation of the function in Ardoq that deals with management of the application portfolio, the Directorate of Health has gained good control of systems, applications and relevant data, along with good visualizations of what the IT landscape looks like. This provides a good basis for driving proper development further. Through the use of Ardoq, the Directorate of Health can plan for the future, identify cost reductions and investment opportunities, reduce risks and support IT projects.
- We are very pleased with the cooperation with Axaz. Anders and the rest of the team have been skilled in the implementation process of Ardoq, and have assisted with valuable assistance in the management of the system,” says Berger.
