As a leading player in food and cleaning services, Compass Group has employed acquisitions as a key growth strategy. Often it comes with an inevitable headache: new employees, different source systems and technical standards that are supposed to talk together. Through close collaboration and the use of visual development platforms, we at Axaz have helped Compass Group manage complex ERP systems to create room for growth.
For Compass Group employees, everyday life does not stop even if the infrastructure changes. They rely on data accuracy and systems functioning from day one to deliver food and cleaning services in the best possible way. Instead of forcing employees to adapt to technology, we saw a need to build bridges. The challenge was to move complicated tasks out of heavy ERP system and into something that is actually intuitive to use in a busy everyday life.
Because Compass Group is growing rapidly, speed and flexibility are key to making this work. Since 2022, Axaz has been a strategic partner for Compass Group, helping to develop and operate smart, tailored applications that allow the technology to actually support the people who use it.
In order to release time-consuming and expensive special adaptations in the core system itself, we chose a different path. Using Appfarm, a visual development platform, we build bespoke applications that act as an agile layer on top of the ERP system. By connecting these applications closely with the company's existing systems, we help Compass Group achieve a seamless data flow. When new companies are acquired, they can be plugged directly into the existing app layer. By keeping the core system to itself, Compass Group escapes expensive and complicated rebuilds later. It also makes the experience better for employees, where they relate to a clean and familiar interface, while we handle the technical with different source systems and processes at the back end. This provides a technology landscape that is ready for growth, rather than being a hindrance to the company's employees or needs.
We put usability into focus by moving complex tasks out of heavy interfaces and into intuitive apps that are easy to use in everyday life. Instead of the employee having to navigate a vast, all-encompassing ERP system, we build targeted, role-based applications. Here, the user sees only the specific data and the functions necessary for their particular task. This makes the technology intuitive and tangible, removing the noise from complex systems they would otherwise never have needed to learn. This allows employees to have a better everyday life, as well as fewer mistakes and misunderstandings.
Through seamless flow of data to existing systems, the technology takes care of the details in the background, so that both management and employees have full control over what is done — without manual knots. When things are recorded as soon as they happen, there is no need to spend time on afterwork and control. With automated workflows taking over the manual, repetitive tasks, the human typos that used to cause headaches are also disappearing. This means that less time is spent on small tasks and more time spent on what actually matters.
When Compass Group changes direction or makes another acquisition, they can't wait months for the technology. As a partner, Axaz strives to deliver apps and integrations at the pace the business demands. By developing the solutions visually, we can launch updates frequently, so your organization always has the support they need to grow further. This gives an extreme ability to change.
To make this happen, we drop long detours and heavy requirements specs. It is simply about removing the distance between those who have a problem and those who are supposed to solve it. By having our developers spar with those who will actually use the solutions in their everyday lives, we find problem areas and needs faster. Then we don't build what we think they need, but tools that actually work in the workday.
We have little faith in big single releases where everything changes overnight. Instead, we roll out improvements on an ongoing basis, which address real challenges in the here and now. This close dialogue with Compass Group makes us hit the blink more often. We not only solve today's needs, but lay a foundation that secures the company for growth.
When acquisitions are a central strategy, it is the people who stand in the middle of the tangle of new systems and technical standards. For us at Axaz, the way forward is not just about connecting systems, but about making sure that technology never becomes a brake on the ambitions of Compass Group.
Through the partnership, we have supported a potentially vulnerable phase of growth into a robust digital everyday life. We've shifted our focus from heavy ERP interfaces to tools that employees actually enjoy using. Success is rarely measured in the number of systems, but in how little friction the employees notice in their everyday lives. By clearing the technical tangles of the road, we are ensuring Compass Group can focus on growth, while making sure the tools they need are always a step ahead.
Does your business find that integrations and new systems steal focus from core tasks?
Let's have a coffee and see how we can ensure that their technology can support the humans, not the other way around.
